Summer is once again upon us! The heat is on and tees are back in fashion.
Don’t let your design go to waste by printing it on a generic low-cost shirt. We’ve done the homework and put together our top tips in picking the perfect shirt for the summer season.
1. Go lightweight
Fabric thickness is measured in grams per square metre (gsm). 130 – 160 gsm is the sweet spot for lightweight shirts suitable for summer. Lower than 100 gsm may be too flimsy. Meanwhile, 180 gsm will feel too thick and heavy.
The gsm count is the key to finding lightweight clothing. Fabric composition and other factors discussed below can vary based on your personal preference.
2. 100% cotton for casual
Look specifically for 100% combed ring spun cotton fine jersey. Shirts with this composition have a nice light but premium feel to them. They are very comfortable and highly suitable for custom printing.
3. Polyesters and Tri-blends
If you wanted a little more stretch or a slightly different feel, you can go with a cotton polyester blend or a tri-blend composition. As long as the fabric weight (gsm) stays within the 130 – 160 gsm range, shirts with varied compositions will still remain lightweight and suitable for summer.
Consider a 100% polyester composition when looking for a shirt to be used as active wear or for any other sweaty activity. Polyester is more durable than cotton and will last longer through more frequent use and washes.
4. Go sleeveless
Needless to say, going sleeveless will definitely help in cooling things down. It’s still very surprising that clients are generally unaware of the wide variety of options available for both men and women.
